London Sweet Spots

After over 27 years in London, I am now fully appreciating and discovering so many places  - that's all thanks to my journey in street photography.

In this blog I will be sharing my experience in doing street photography in London over the past 2 years since starting photography. I have bearly scratched the surface within this city but I will be sharing some of the best locations I have been to.

St Paul's Cathedral

Let's start of first with one of my favourite places to shoot in London. St Paul's holds a special place in my heart due to the fact that there are so many locations you can take a shot, especially on a very sunny day. There are so many wonderful buildings such as the shopping centre, millennium bridge or the cathedral, as well as views from the top of the shopping centre. You also can go for some creative shots from inside the shopping, sunlight reflections from windows and metals, ground floor shots with sunlight beaming through the dark spots or simply catching people having a moment.

Barbican Centre

It almost reminds me of a concrete jungle, it has greens from plantations in the middle with circular shaped ponds surrounding it and concrete flats surrounding the entire area. It's such a surreal area, it feels out of place compared to the rest of London but I think that is what makes it such a great location to take shots.

King's Cross

This location has so many awesome location that just gift you with great shots, such as Rainbow Tunnel Coal Drops Yard or King's Cross St Pancreas Station. I visited the overground station and got a bit more creative with the angles and the use of lights beaming through the windows. The architecture in and around the station is very inspiring, especially on a sunny day as the buildings cut and create some awesome shapes with the shadows. I am not sure yet on how forgiving this area is when the weather is grey or poor but sometimes that can be a blessing in disguise, forcing to be more creative.

China Town

China Town has so much going on that you will find yourself coming back again and again at different days, times and weather. So much is happening in this little area that you are spoilt for shots. The only drawback is that it is usually very busy throughout the week and especially the weekend so be sure to take that into consideration. The area is full of moments that I was able to capture interactions between people, vibrant colours, Asian culture, glass reflections/windows and so much more.

Tower Bridge

Finally, Tower Bridge is one of those gems of London that keeps on giving each time I visit. The best way I can describe this area is that you get a good sense of scale when you walk around and take some shots. Buildings are massive and have interesting patterns and shapes that are accommodated by the bridge, the river and if the weather is right, can give you some amazing shots. Do not be fooled however, this place can also still produce some beautiful shots during rainy or grey weather, you might just have to enhance a few things during editing.
